Overview

Feel2Heal (originally Recovered Space) is an AI-powered emotional wellbeing platform supporting people experiencing eating disorders and emotional overwhelm.

As the sole designer, I created the entire product experience – from brand identity to the shipped iOS and Android apps – building a compassionate and accessible support ecosystem together with the founders.

Challenge

28 million Americans struggle with eating disorders, yet 80% never receive treatment due to cost, stigma, and limited access to specialized care.

Our challenge was to design a product that felt supportive rather than clinical, made complex emotional tracking feel simple and natural, and could scale from ED recovery to broader emotional wellness.

Status quo

When I joined, the only existing component was the EAT-26 screening page. There was no app structure, no navigation, no UX patterns, no information architecture, and no visual identity, so my role began with defining the foundation for the entire product.

Process

The team initially explored building the entire experience through a chat interface. Conversational AI felt personal and emotionally supportive, but early testing showed its limitations: the flow quickly became overwhelming, users lost their sense of orientation, and important insights became difficult to revisit. This led to a shift toward a hybrid structure, where chat stayed as a meaningful part of emotional tracking but lived within a more traditional, predictable app framework.

Within this structure, I worked on shaping the core user experience: a gentle onboarding flow, journaling-style check-ins, AI-generated insights, a psychoeducational library, progress tracking tools, and a safe community space.

Around ten months later, user feedback and market insights highlighted a broader need beyond eating disorder recovery, prompting an expansion into emotional wellbeing. This shift required restructuring check-ins, adjusting the content hierarchy, creating new entry points, updating visual elements.

Results

The metrics validated strong product-market fit and user demand for accessible emotional support. The high engagement rates demonstrated that our design approach – balancing structure with empathy – resonated with people seeking help.

What I Learned

Designing for emotional wellbeing taught me how small UX decisions shape someone’s sense of safety. As the sole designer, I learned to move fast, build modular systems, adapt through multiple pivots, and balance empathy with product strategy. This project strengthened my ability to design for complexity while keeping experiences simple, human, and emotionally grounded.
